The Summer Yard of the Quarter Winner is…
By Melissa Macker
Congratulations to Bobby and Gloria Vinson for winning Yard of the Quarter!
They have lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and have both put a lot of hard work into their yard. You can’t help but notice their yard when you drive down Nottingham Avenue. It always appears very well cared for. This time of year, it looks lush and tropical with its elephant ear plants and brightly colored crepe myrtles. The plant choices are a perfect hybrid between what the husband and wife prefers. When we talked with them about their yard, Gloria told us she prefers green things, while her husband always wants to add flowers and color to their garden. It is Bobby, though, who really enjoys the plants and will talk your ear off about his garden if you let him. We love having the Vinsons as neighbors and as neighborhood association members.
In addition to displaying the “Yard of the Quarter” sign, they’re also the proud winners of two gift cards from local businesses whose owners also live in the neighborhood: Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen and Travis Jean Emporium. We would like to thank Scott Mitchell for donating the gift card to Travis Jean.
Get ready—the next round of voting for the summer Yard of the Quarter will be October 10-22. We cannot wait to see all of your beautiful fall decorations! In the meantime, here is some inspiration from Bobby and Gloria’s yard.
The Second Yard of the Quarter contest has begun!
The next Yard of the Quarter competition has started! We are all excited to see who will win the summer contest. We are going to do this one a little differently from the first one. The board has nominated four beautiful yards you can choose from. The winner will receive gift cards from Travis Jean Emporium and Piedmont Brewery. You must be a member of the North Highlands Neighborhood Association to vote or win. You can vote by e-mailing nhnamacon@gmail.com with the address of the yard you are voting for. The deadline to vote is July 31.

And the winner of Yard of the Quarter is…
by Melissa Macker
Congratulations to our first winner of “Yard of the Quarter,” Richard and Dawn Paul!
Richard has truly earned it. He has worked tirelessly in his garden for years to make it what it is today. Their lot is kind of an odd shape, but he has turned it into a sanctuary. Many of the features—including the swing and the birdhouse—he built himself. And of course we’re all thankful to Richard for how he shares his gift by helping to beautify neighbors’ yards as well.
In addition to displaying the “Yard of the Quarter” sign for the next month, they’re also the proud winners of two gift cards from local businesses: Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen and Travis Jean Emporium. We’re glad to call the owners of both businesses our neighbors, as well.
Get ready—the next round of voting for the summer Yard of the Quarter will be July 15-31. In the meantime, here is some inspiration from Richard and Dawn’s yard.

The President’s Corner: Welcome to our website!
By Rob Moreland, NHNA President
Hello North Highland's neighbors and future neighbors. Welcome to the first North Highlands website. The executive committee of North Highlands decided that a website would be a great tool for the neighborhood to encourage a greater sense of community. The website will help residents know what is going on with events, announcements and news within the community. It will also enable people to see pictures and activities from past events.
Another reason for our website is to provide visibility to potential new neighbors. We truly believe that North Highlands is "Macon's best kept secret" and it is time for everyone to see what we see. Read our history, or look at the amazing and unique houses that this neighborhood offers. We have many styles of homes, and we are the oldest planned neighborhood in Macon. Slowly drive through to see for yourself how wonderful this "secret" really is and appreciate all that we have to offer. The NHNA website will highlight our unique neighborhood!
Technology is a great way to meet your neighbors and an informative way to participate in our growing community. Please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone on the board with questions or comments through email: nhnamacon@gmail.com.
